The Album Credit Project

About The Album Credit Project

The Recordings

Without implying any moral or value judgments on unofficial live recordings, the Album Credit Project exclusively tracks official releases, sanctioned by the performers, or their label, or both. In addition, the Project does not track most greatest-hits collections and other compilations, as these releases usually offer little in the way of tracking a performer's recording career. Exceptions are made where a compilation includes new studio material that was otherwise unavailable at the time of release.

The Programmer

The Album Credit Project was created by musician and music lover Chris Merlo, bass guitar and Chapman Stick player from The Yellow Box. Chris is also a Computer Science professor at a large college near New York City, and initially developed the Six Degrees of Bill Bruford as a way of putting the breadth-first search algorithm into practice before teaching it to undergraduates for the first time in a long time. The site has grown since then as a way to further explore collaborations and track musicians' careers.

All of the data presented on this site were entered by Chris. Data were collected from performers' web sites, labels' web site, Wikipedia, and Discogs. Due to this, you will find missing, incomplete, and inaccurate data here and there. You are encouraged to contact us to suggest edits and new preformers to track.

The Technology

The code that powers The Album Credit Project was written using the programming languages PHP and JavaScript. The site runs on a Linux server, and its backend is powered by a MySQL database, and it is presented using the front-end toolkit Bootstrap with the fonts Noto Sans JP and Tittilium Web. Chris utilized the editor Visual Studio Code during most of the development of the Project.

All of these technologies are examples of free and open-source software.
